What Happened to You?
When I (Claire) first listened to a podcast describing this book, I wept. It was such a relief to find out that “what happened to me” was shaping ways that I think, feel and act. And that it might not be my fault.
Our earliest experiences shape our relationships, interactions and decisions far down the road. This book provides scientific and emotional insights into the behavioural patterns we struggle to understand. Labels like “people pleaser”, “self-sabatoger”, “disruptive”, “can’t hold a job”, or “bad at relationship” have roots in unresolved pain. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to asking What happened to you? When we understand our past, it helps to clear a path to our future. It opens a way towards resilience and healing.
