The Place We Find Ourselves #122: A Pastor’s Journey of Exploring His Story and Addressing His Trauma
The underlying premise of this podcast is that, in order to love well, we will have to name our shame. What is under the iceberg that still makes us sad, anxious and mad and is hijacking our effectiveness as a human? Rich Villodas shares a story of trauma when he was 12 years old that he noticed being re-enacted three decades later. He tells us how he has been on a two-decade journey of learning to listen to his body in day-to-day life.
Trauma gets stuck in our bodies and, when we know this, we can develop the self and social awareness necessary to care for ourselves and our congregation in optimal ways. I (James) have been on a similar journey of recognizing my body as a major (not minor) prophet and I vouch for the compassionate and curious inner exploration suggested here.
