The Connected Life #282: Developing a Healthy Sense of Self

Yourself

This podcast helped me (Claire) to be more confident in who I was created to be, and helped me believe that my voice matters. This is pretty huge, especially at my age. I lived for years with a quiet, diminishing self-loathing I didn’t even know was there. Maybe you can relate.

Hosts Justin and Abi are life consultants, and have a track record of nurturing tangible and sustainable change in the many individuals, groups, and businesses they meet with. Both of them have spent the last two decades of their lives doing deep personal work, owning who they are and facing their pain. They insist that a healthy sense of self is crucial for relationships to flourish.

Their work has taught me that having my own unique opinion does not mean that I am at war with the people around me. In fact, if my life revolves around being like “them”, I can succumb to abuse, bullying and control. I can become so engulfed in the other that I no longer know who I am. That is a tragedy. To “love my neighbor as myself”, I cannot abandon myself. I must be honest and accept who I am, what I think and what I value.
