Storybrand: Meaningful Relationships
In this series, counsellors Al and Nita Andrews invite us to the table with Steve and Gracie, who are newly married, for four life-changing conversations about marriage. The series is hosted by Donald Miller, who wrote the book Scary Close, where he claims that being yourself in a relationship is worth the risk. In that book, Al Andrews is the counsellor Miller interacts with.
The Andrews' compare marriage to two cities coming together, and suggest that in the process, some buildings will be torn down as something new is built. In the development of this new city, there will be conflict. But conflicts about finances and sex and houses and chores are symptoms of deeper things. There is a stream running under the surface which informs all of the activity above it.
James and I (Claire) have walked with many young couples through these sessions. Every time we do so, we learn new things ourselves. And we remember what the point of our marriage is: to participate in the healing of our partner. What an honor and sacred trust.
