Henri Nouwen wants us to see that before we are loved (and wounded!) by our parents, teachers, friends, spouses and children we are the beloved daughters and sons of God! The enormous spiritual task we have is to claim this central identity for ourselves and live a life based on that knowledge.  

We tend to live out of three lies: I am what I do; I am what others say about me; I am what I have. Believing these things turns our existence into a chaotic mess of up-and-down zigzags.

It has been three-plus decades since I (James) discovered Nouwen’s profound homily in a time of deep personal crisis, and it offered me a better way to live! I invite you on the liberating adventure of learning to live from a place of being God’s beloved and knowing it in your bones.
